---Brian received an early taste of seeing his work on the printed page as an 11 year-old when he entered the national Weekly Reader "Create a Star Wars Alien" drawing contest. He only received a "runner-up" spot in the contest , but getting to hand out the issue of Weekly Reader with his printed alien drawing to his classmates felt like winning First Place. Incidentally, his prize from the contest was a 'How to' book on drawing monsters. Inside were drawings that higher placing contestants had copied verbatim to win the coveted Star Wars alien masks that went to the top three winners. Brian's childhood ambitions to tear down the obviously corrupt and unjust Weekly Reader organization were not successful.
---Later in life, Brian earned a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art with an emphasis in figure drawing and painting with watercolor. Brian has been a professional illustrator for over fifteen years. Working mostly in pencil and watercolor, Brian produces art in the tangible media tradition, using digital media occasionally for small effects and flourishes. His works most often center on the human figure and human situations. Through the use of color and lighting, Brian produces works that capture atmosphere and emotion. Brian enjoys the problem solving opportunities that illustrating provides and is excited to be doing what he loves for a living. Brian lives in Montana with his amazing wife, four incredible sons, and the canine nightmare, Bella.
---In 2000, Brian began the monumental task of producing fully-painted illustrations for DC Comics' graphic novel, Batman: Absolution. This work includes nearly 500 illustrations to produce a single cohesive narrative spanning 96 pages. After painting Absolution, Brian produced illustrations for Marvel Comics' Hulk: Nightmerica, a six-issue series spanning 132 pages of fully-painted art. Among other assignments, Brian has also had the honor of painting illustrations for an article in the May, 2005 issue of National Geographic magazine.
